Comharchcumann Thoraí Teo
Supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta, Comharchumann Thoraí Teo is the local body responsible for the economic development, infrastructural maintenance, and cultural development of Tory Island and its inhabitants
The island council is made up of the Community Development Manager (Marjorie Uí Chearbhaill) and a group of nine locally elected volunteers.
The council volunteers are periodically elected by the island community (shareholders) and the council operation is guided by the Island Constitution. The core function of the council is threefold...
- To promote the island to develop its community
- To maintain certain infrastructural utilities and services
- To encourage, develop, and stage cultural activities
In addition, the recently appointed Tory Island Language Planning Officer (Seanán Mac Aoidh) will take up responsibility for the implementation of the Gaelic language plan for Tory Island which includes over 30 measures which will positively impact on life on Tory Island, including: education, community life, business, culture, and tourism.
